Silent Alarm

Review time.

BLOC PARTY. SILENT ALARM

01 - Like Eating Glass (8/10) Great, great song. Nice hooks.
02 - Helicopter (10/10) FUCK YES, YES, YES, YES, YES. Helicopter's lyrics are matched only by the guitar itself (which at some points sounds like an alarm, of all things).
03 - Positive Tension (8/10) I love the bassline on this song--it's cool in a very classic way.
04 - Banquet (10/10) Easily one of the best songs on this album, and not surprisingly their first single. It's got a very catchy and bouncy beat with some pretty neat guitar that goes hand in hand with it.
05 - Blue Light (7/10) One of the slower songs on the album, it's got a very warm sound. Perfect if you're into that sorta thing.
06 - She's Hearing Voices (8/10) Hey, hey, hey, hey. Sounds very late 80's/early 90's Brit-popish. A refreshing song, and one of the more danceable tracks (though all of them are danceable).
07 - This Modern Love (9/10) Albeit a slow song, Kele's vocals are very harmonious and go great with the slow tempo of this song.
08 - Pioneers (10/10) The slower song that turns into a faster song. I love it. GREAT lyrics (Stick your bloody head in the jaws of the beast).
09 - Price of Gas (8/10) WTF? This sounds like a different band...maybe Gang of Four perhaps? Though not cited as a reference, the influence is definitely there.
10 - Little Thoughts (7/10) A bonus track--it is an earlier work of Bloc Party.
11 - So Here We Are (9/10) The second best slower song on the album, it sports some surprisingly uplifting elements. The chiming guitar reminds me somewhat of an Explosions in the Sky song, and vocals are equally nice. Lovely.
12 - Luno (10/10) Incredible song!! There are some neat effects that put it more on the electronic side of things, yet it is one of the most aggressive tracks. Brilliant.
13 - Plans (9/10) This song has some elements similar to Luno, and that's a good thing. Plans has a very ambient feel to it.
14 - Compliments (8/10) Though a fitting song to end the album with, it has a pretty heavy atmospheric sound to it. Its ambience reminds me of Aphex Twin. The vocals are soft, but melodic. They don't stray too far away from the atmosphere. There are some cool effects in this ending, and I could think of no song better to end this wonderful album with.

Really, I can't stop listening to this album. It's been a little over a week, and my ears absolutely refuse to listen to anything NOT Bloc Party at this point. This album is amazing among other things, and I cannot stress how much YOU should be listening to them right NOW.

Update'D

So uhh...I got Gran Turismo 4. It's fun, and the opening is super intense.

...

It's like, they show all these dramatic camara angles with some string'D music...and the background changes. Then they show dramatic back shots of the pit crew with the flags and stuff...it's badass. Get it. Now.

So I'm going to Kamikazecon. I'm gonna win the Naruto 3 tournament. I swear. Just like I won the two at Ushicon. I'm doing it. I swear. YOU GET THE HELL OFF ME.

But yeah, not much happened today. I went to the doctor coz I'm sick. But I'll update with something better tomorrow. I promise.

Later.

Update no. 00000001

Update numbaa zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, one.

Obscure Pillows references aside, I am here today...or shall I say tonight...or shall I say this morning...very, very early morning...to bring to you a very special update. Now I had planned this update from the beginning...I was like, "Yeah...I'll just suddenly stop updating to catch everyone/anyone who actually reads this journal off guard...then I'll finally make another update on New Year's Day!" So yeah. My plan has been carried out in a very meticulous fashion. Now for the actual update.

*Breathes in*

No, I am not still playing Pokémon. Reached pretty much the height of my potential due to laziness.

Yes, I am still listening to AKFG. A lot. Their new album was released during my absence. Titled "Sol-Fa", it is a compilation of Asian Kung-Fu Generation's most mature songs yet. Heading in the direction of such tracks off Kimi Tsunagi Five M as "Natsu no Hi, Zanzou", "No Name", and "Understand", the tracks are much more mellow than the material off their previous release. Don't get me wrong, it's not all mellow tracks. That's just what the album theme conveys. The songs Shindou Satoshi (or Shindou Kaku), Riraito (AKA Rewrite, one of Fullmetal Alchemist's opening themes), Re:Re, and 24 ji (24 o'clock) are all fast songs that are sure to get you moving. Good album.

I've also started listening to other bands, such as B'z and Bump of Chicken. Good stuff, check them out.

Gamewise, Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3. Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3, Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3, Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3. We have played this game so fucking much...there is little room for improvement in the skills of my friends and my own. We have pretty much reached the height of potential skill. We are really good, and we will get to show our skills at the upcoming Ushicon, where a tournament is likely to be held. We will win. We've also all picked up PSO again. Phantasy Star Online, for those of you who haven't played it, is a very fun and addictive MMORPG. I used to play this back in like...ninth grade. It's good that we can still get enjoyment out of it. I also picked up Bujingai, which is a very fun hack 'n slash adventure starring Gackt as its main character. Gackt is very well known in the Japanese music world. Personally, I love his music and currently own two of his albums.

I ordered a Cospa Sasuke costume for Ushicon. For those who don't know, Cospa is a Japanese shop dedicated to the creation of anime/manga related costumes and apparel. They make costumes of THE highest quality out there, and the price shows it. Eek.

School sucks. I wore a wig every freaking day last semester. Oh well. Only one more semester left. Dress codes suck.

Note to self: Don't ever play Silent Hill 4 at night all alone. EVER. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. God, that game is scary :{

Okay, this final note is to those of you who actually read this journal while it was being updated. Sorry for not updating. Seriously, I didn't think I was just gonna blow it off for this long. I hope you're not disappointed. Hah, who am I kidding...None of you actually read this, did you :P?

I plan to update frequently in the future, so yeah.

Happy New Year, good luck on your resolutions, thank you, and good night.

Good Dreams

So I applied at Gamestop for a job a few weeks back. Well, I went in for an interview yesterday, along with many of my friends. The manager said he'd call back Sunday. Well, today's Sunday, and he called not 10 minutes prior to this entry. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job due to my lack of job experience. That or I'm too young. Or a combination of the two. Luckily, my brother's girlfriend might be able to get me a higher paying job...but as a cook. I don't know if I'm up to it, but since I need the money...for whatever reasons...I will probably apply for it. Yesterday was pretty fun though. I spent the day with Jacob and Ashley, and we just sorta screwed around and went out to eat. It was fun. Anyways, no time for moping around. I'm gonna go do something with my friends now...Later Mr./Ms. David's Journal Reader.

Eleking

Hi again. Yeah, it's been awhile.

...Yeah, awhile.

I went to my friend Tiffany's house with a bunch of other friends last night and we all watched the Ju-on(or as the American release is named, "The Grudge") movies. The first two are made for television movies, and as such, they suck terribly. The production values are laughable, and the "shock scenes" are anything but. However, the third one, the first theatrical release, is far, far more disturbing. It does a very good job of taking the contorted plot of the first two attempts and turning it into something that makes sense. I enjoyed the third movie...even though I fell asleep towards the end, but not due to boredom. I was really tired :<

I've recently discovered another new band...The Chewinggum Weekend. They're great. You should check them out. They are most well known for their bassist, Jun Suzuki, who often plays with the Pillows (since they do not actually have an official bassist). In fact, ever since their original bassist left, he has helped on producing nearly every album.

Anyways, not much going on right now, still bored, and still playing Pokémon.

Pokémon. I am addicted. I'm hot. I'm cold. Gimme that blanket. No, fuck, take it away. I'm sweating. GIVE BACK THE BLANKET. OH GOD THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN FUCKSHIHDSKFDSFSKFOJLDSFJKDFFUCK.

Yeah, so. I've been playing it a lot. A LOT. I have almost 80 hours on it...jesus...D: I dunno, man. I just can't stop playing. It's really unhealthy, or something like that.

Anyways, I've gotten over the complete suckage of DDR Extreme(ly fucking gay) and its lack of Sakura, among other cool songs featured in the Japanese arcade version.

My obsession over Asian Kung-Fu Generation has grown into an all-out love for them. I really can't get enough...They're really good...Check them out. Or if you're lazy (and if you see me at school), just ask and I'll burn you a copy of Kimi Tsunagi Five M. I really want people to feel this too, ya know? This is really the first band that has even come close to getting as much attention from me as the Pillows. SERIOUSLY.

...SERIOUSLY.

Not much has been going on in my life, and if you know me, you know this already. This is pretty much how it always is.

So, yeah.

. . .

I'm gonna go play Pokémon now.

Man, I'm Thirsty.

So like. I didn't go to Homecoming.

With that out of the way, today was a pretty nice day. I fucked around for most of the school day...accidently blasted Asian Kung-Fu Generation at my computer during Computer Applications...I thought the headphones were plugged in ): After school, me and three other friends did the geekiest thing ever imaginable. EVER.

2 VS. 2 POKEMON BATTLE!!

Of course, Jordan is a bastard and whipped out his Mewtwo. We pretty much got slaughtered.

After school, Kristin and I went to Burger King. I wanted to hang out with Josh too, so I called him. He was at my house...Then I told him to meet us at Burger King and turns out...HE JUST CAME FROM THERE. So he showed up with James and I gave James 5 bucks to get quarters with and fuck over Burger King through their catchy coiny droppy gamey thingy. We ended up getting 18 bucks worth of food. With 5 bucks. W I N.

Anyways, we came home and played DDR Extreme. I'm not as mad about it as I was when I bought it, so it was a lot more fun.

That's pretty much it. May not seem that exciting to you, but it was a valuable day to me.

Hi.

Having effectively gotten at least ONE person sick, my mission is complete. I've been playing Pokémon like crazy, as has my friend Jordan. After telling him how I wasted like 2 hours trying to catch a damn Scyther, he comes to me the next day and is like "HAHA, CAUGHT IT FIRST TRY!!!!"

...

):

Some people still continue to ask if my hair is in fact a WIG. I just say yes...and then when some of my hair can be seen poking out, I just tell them I like to grow out certain parts of my hair. People are so dumb.

My obsession with Asian Kung-Fu Generation continues to grow!! I downloaded a few of their PVs and I must say...they are quite fucktastic. I especially like Rewrite, where up until the near end it seems like a normal music video with simple footage of them playing...then suddenly they start floating all over the place, and it's just really cool. You have to see it for yourself.

...

NOW. GO DOWNLOAD, BITCHEZ~~

Anyways, that's about it for today fuckfaces. I will update tomorrow. Maybe. If I fucking feel like it STOP ORDERING ME AROUND GODDAMN SHITFUCKDSKDJKDCOCKDUFKJDSF.

A master of Pokémon arts, I wander

Pokémaniac Dave wants to battle!
Pokémaniac Dave sends out Nobuhiko.

I missed fifth period today because my brother was late and I was too lazy to walk. We pretty much agreed on it, which was cool. I got to school and went to Computer Applications pretty much immediately after, where Mr. Kittrell taught us the EXTREMELY simple task of creating a layer mask. Seriously. I'm not joking. Our parents' tax dollars are paying for this. I saw Jordan afterwards and then I saw Kristin and walked her to class.

I played Pokémon all through lunch again.

...

Same old, same old.

After slacking off in English, I met up with Kristin and walked her to her sixth period class. Algebra was same old, same old.

After the bell rang, I went to the bench to meet up with Jordan and Kristin. We all whipped out our GBA's, which was pretty damn geeky. I battled Jordan and we got to test out our badass wireless adapters, though it was a lopsided battle (I have a lvl 40-44 party...)

After that, I came home and talked to Kristin for about 10 minutes before she left. And now I'm typing this. (:

Anyways, that's about it for today, I may or may not update again tonight. So yeah.

Later.

This hand of mine is burning red. Its loud roar tells me to defeat you.

BURNING!!! FINGER!!!!

So anyway. Friday was completely hectic, but I got through it and came out alive, so...I'm updating now. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

Today was a really fast day mostly thanks to Pokémon: Fire Red. I already have 23 hours on it and I've only had it since Friday D: It's as addicting as ever, which is nice (: Since I got so completely immersed in its golden gameplay (a formula which since 1998 has never failed), most of my party is level 35-40. I may take a break for friends who are getting it as well as Kristin (who bought Leaf Green) and Jordan (who bought Fire Red *high five*)so they can have a chance to catch up.

:>

Study Hall was a really good chance to play, so I played it all period. I also played all through lunch, and some during Spanish III. My grades are kinda sucking right now since I have been missing a bit of school, but it's not too bad. It's fixable, luckily.

So yeah, that's pretty much all I've been doing. I'm going to the Austin City Limits Music Festival this weekend, and Kristin and Jordan are both going. It's gonna be pretty awesome, and I will probably update like a madman upon my return. That's not to say that I won't update til then, but I'm just warning you. If you read this, that day's entry will be a bit text heavy :>

Anyways, that's it for today folks, talk to me on AIM (my screenname is Haruhara Naota or Monstaa CC) sometime.

Hi.

So I'm finally getting better now, and things are looking up. I saw my kitty for the first time in two days...I think my mom was trying to keep her away from me so I wouldn't get any more sick than I already was D: (I am allergic to kitties ;-;) I listened to Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Polysics all day :D Kristin came over in the morning because she has off period and we watched some morning cartoons. She came back again later to show me a collage she made of me. It was really good, and it said "Pyon" all over it, which was cute =^_^=

It was a pretty average day, nothing exciting really happened...So yeah, sorry I don't have much for you today.

Infinity?

It fluctuated.

OH EH AH OO

Oh my fucking god. I mentioned I was sick in yesterday's entry, but I've since gotten worse. Seriously. I stayed up all night last night trying to BREATHE. Staying up for 6 hours trying not to suffocate is not a fun experience, I'll tell you that much. My throat was all closed up and sore, while my nasal cavities were in the same condition. My eyes were watering like crazy, and they were throbbing in pain. I basically stayed in bed all day watching the Food Network.

I tried listening to some music later, but it only made my head hurt even more ):

Basically today was just a miserable day, except when Kristin visited at around 7. We watched Pokémon: Johto Journeys and Yu-Gi-Oh. (:

...

That's basically it for today, folks. See you tomorrow.

The Day Before Tomorrow

Mugennnnnnn

Yurai daaaaaaa

Hi. I am so totally sick right now, but since I just started this journal yesterday I am updating anyways.

Today was a fairly boring day...I went to 1st period, and the teacher was a bitch as usual...

Me: May I go to the restroom, please?
Her: *Sigh* ...I guess. Write me a pass.
Me: Okay. *Writes pass on previously torn out sketchbook page and hands it to her*
Her: What in the fucking hell is this? Don't tear pages out of your sketchbook.
Me: But--
Her: No, I won't accept it. Mother fucker. Go write another one.
Me: *Writes another pass and hands it to her, then promptly walks out with a very large 'fuck you' in mind*

Then I came back and she gave me more shit.

Me: *Sits down and resumes work*
Her: *Sigh* David, go sign out and in over there. God-fucking-damnit.
Me: ...Okay. *Signs in and out, then returns to seat and resumes work*
Her: DAVID, SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH! FUCK!

Any cussing was added for effect, but we both knew that's what we were thinking.

So yeah, I was feeling fairly sick in the first place, but by the time second period rolled around I was miserable. I decided to tell the teacher I was going to the restroom. I went. For an hour and 27 minutes. (: I wandered around until the bell rang, then I got my stuff and went to lunch. I only did this because my study hall teacher is a coach and he is totally nice. Lunch was pretty much the usual, as was the rest of the day.

Total number of times asked about my hair actually being a wig: 5

So the day was finally over and Kristin and I went to my house and watched an episode of Golden Boy. It was pretty relaxed, despite my feeling so badly. After she left, I pretty much just fell asleep and that was that.

Today

I was gonna go to the mall today with Jacob and Ashley, but I ended up cancelling at the last minute last night. Instead, I spent the day with Kristin.

It was happy.

We listened to hitomi (Huma-Rhythm) on the way to Taco Bell and we picked up four Frito Burritos. All four without onions, two with sour cream (I love sour cream <:}). We came home and since I was feeling exceptionally goofy, we watched two episodes of Golden Boy.

It was magical.

Not in quite awhile have I been able to sit down and laugh with someone.

I also discovered a really fucking awesome band called Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I am completely in love. They have touched me in a way that only the Pillows have touched me before. Go download some of their music, you bum.

Now for a post within a post, the topic being...YESTERDAY.

The night before, I had been talking with Jacob about going to an arcade to play DDR and whatnot. So when I woke up, decided to call Kristin to see if she wanted to come with us.

She didn't answer.

As much as this disappointed me, I thought the show must go on. So I contacted Jacob, and he came over. We got in the car, and we were off. The melodic tunes of Led Zeppelin played while we zoned out, staring blankly at the clouds above us. We closed in on our destination, with the help of myself and Jacob, and my mom was able to get us there in one piece. We went inside, and it wasn't very busy at first, but later in the night many people occupied the medium-sized castle of entertainment. I played DDR. Lots. And lots. Of DDR. 48 songs, to be exact. I got a B on Sakura (Heavy) twice. OWNED :D The rest of the time, I played Initial D and Jacob did the same. I ended up getting a card (I cleared Myogi :D). Soon enough, it was 9:45, and my brother picked us up. On the way home, I was completely taken by exhaustion. Once we got home, I got in bed and drifted away.
